Movember is here again, growing moustaches and raising awareness of men’s health issues.
I got these Wilton moustache icing decorations few months ago and had almost forgotten about them, until beginning of this month and what better timing for featuring some cute “mo” decorations.
Super Mario is my all time favorite video game character and moustache being one of his prominent features I thought turning him into a cake pop would be a fun little baking project, and it truly was! 😀











As Mario is easily recognized by his red cap and two distinct features; large nose and mustache, I did not see need to add more facial features and left them as minimalistic as possible.


Chocolate Cake Pop mixture used for 13 Mario Pops is 1/3 of the full mixture made by mixing cold crumbled cocoa cake with whipped cream cheese icing prepared with the following recipes.
- 220 grams plain flour
- 200 grams white granulated sugar
- 50 grams cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 80 mililiters heavy cream
- 1 egg
- 100 mililiters water hot
- Preheat oven to 180°C and lightly grease a 20cm cake tin/ ring cake tin.
- In a mixing bowl combine all dry ingredients.
- Add egg, cream and vanilla and mix well.
- Stir the hot water in and mix until fully incorporated then pour into the cake tin and bake for 25-35 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in middle comes out clean.
Used in cake pops, mixed with 100 grams of cream cheese icing this cake makes 40-50 cake pops.
- 150 grams whipped Philadelphia cream cheese
- 20 grams unsalted butter softened
- 200 grams powdered sugar
- Place cream cheese, butter and half of the icing sugar in a mixing bowl and start beating gradually increasing speed to medium high, mix for a minute until smooth.
- Add remaining powdered sugar and beat until fully incorporated and smooth and creamy.
